lit mag turns school cafeteria into cool coffeehouse

Oh, deer, not another Phantas coffeehouse event to fawn over?

But what the buck? Why not?

CB East’s literary magazine, Phantasmagoria (feel free to call it Phantas), just put on its first coffeehouse event of the year at school. Now, how spooky can Friday the 13th be when you can chill out with some of the nicest often-overlooked people at school?

The coffeehouse performances started at 7:30 with a woodlands theme and, yes, that is where the deer puns come in.

While the entire club is truly amazing, Rachel Harris (a fellow reality panelist) inspired everyone with her superb costume/makeup skills.

Within a matter of hours, the cafeteria took on a relaxing ambiance with couches, shaggy rugs and plenty of white holiday lights. With only the front portion of the cafeteria open, roughly 200 students, friends, family and faculty were in a comfy, romantic setting.

The tantalizing aroma of fresh coffee and tea filled the air. Soft whispers among friends gave the room a supportive atmosphere for the evening’s first performance by Jenna Maida covering Miley Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball.”

The following acts consisted of a little bit of everything, leaving every music preference satisfied. Andrea Dempsey and Alana Smith covered Lorde’s “Royals,” with Ryan Sager beat-boxing. Covers of Demi Lovato were big hits of the night, as well as instrumental covers that rivaled those done by California’s Vitamin String Quartet.
