Egypt-set musical offers more than you think

Have you ever wondered what happens after you die and if you’ll be reunited with your greatest love? If you were a fan of the timeless love story evident in Arthur Laurents’ WEST SIDE STORY or the music composition of Elton John’s THE LION KING on Broadway, then AIDA is a must!

Unfortunately, AIDA has been off Broadway for just about a decade, but you can experience the Tony Award Winning musical at Central Bucks High School East. The “Award Winning” Thespian Troupe, Patriot Players will perform the rock and roll musical AIDA Friday and Saturday, April 4 and 5 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, April 6 at 2:00 pm.

While the musical is award winning, it’s not well known among the general public (or even the CB East community) like THE SOUND OF MUSIC was when the Patriot Players performed it in late 2013.

When AIDA’s plot was first explained to me, it was like ROMEO AND JULIET take Egypt. What a sorry excuse for an explanation! Despite the Shakespearian hit being a classic, it’s received a lot of flack for being cheesy. However, AIDA is not the case.

Combining elements of ancient Egyptian times with contemporary scenes, the musical is bound to leave you with a cathartic, riveting, and empowering experience. You will question which relationships are the most important and the most RISQUE, while faced with the universal themes of betrayal, treason, jealousy, power and greed. Not to mention, there are a plethora of rock and roll songs. While you may want to get up and dance, you do have to reserve a seat for the performance first.
